Position: Nurse Navigator

Reports to: Nurse Manager

Job Purpose:

In this position, you will work collaboratively with providers, nurses, and coordinators to efficiently support patients’ medication and educational needs. Focus on prior authorization coordination, patient education, and patient triage for a busy neurology practice and specialty infusion center.

 

Essential Job Functions including, but not limited to:

  • Act as patient liaison to coordinate follow-up care, infusion coordination, medication management, and clinical monitoring.
  • Provide clear, constant communication regarding patient status changes with team members with daily updates on complex care patients and delegating as needed.
  • Identifying resources for patients in the community that can aid in the physical, social, spiritual, and financial burdens of chronic medical conditions. Store information and provide information to team members.
  • Act as clinical resource for nurses, LPNs, MAs, and PA coordinators
  • Provide education to new or ongoing patients on the possible adverse effects that may occur with medication therapy, required monitoring for medication management, infusion experience, possible infusion related reactions, and symptom management relating to medical diagnosis.
  • Initiating and tracking prior authorizations for medications as needed by providers. Must be in frequent communication with patients regarding status of authorization, as well as clear documentation of status changes in ECW
  • Create a calm environment that ensures patient comfort and trust throughout the duration of their care
  • Meticulous documentation skills
  • Develop care plans with providers and other members of the healthcare team.
  • In the event of staffing shortage in infusion suite, provide nursing care coverage. This includes intaking patients, establishing IV access, mixing medications, administering medications, managing infusions/reactions, discharging IV access, and providing discharge instructions per protocol.
  • Participation in the clinical research trials as required by the practice

 

Required Education:

  • Licensed RN

Skill, Licensure and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Three years clinical experience, neurology experience preferred, specialty infusion experience required
  • Proficiency in neurological care including medication management, clinical assessment, and patient education
  • Proficiency in prior authorization process
  • Proficiency in patient triage and ability to coordinate patient needs with providers. Strong assessment skills a must
  • Able to provide patient focused care with an interest in patient education and peer collaboration
  • Integrating knowledge, research findings, and experience to support patient needs, as well as support peers to provide best practice care to patients
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation/ eClinicalWorks(ECW) preferred
  • Able to demonstrate interpersonal and patient-focused service skills to ensure positive and comfortable experience for patients
  • Patient, compassionate RN who works efficiently and effectively as part of a team

Position: Nurse Manager

Reports to: VP of Operations

Job Purpose:

The Infusion Nurse Manager will be responsible for the administration of Nursing Services. Directs, plans, and coordinates the service activities and staffing performance of infusion nursing staff in rendering quality patient care. Provides direct patient care.

 

Essential Job Functions including, but not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of infusion nurse staff
  • Provide direct patient care as indicated
  • Collaborate with physicians and the Director regarding practice needs and efficient, effective infusion health care delivery processes.
  • Develop staffing patterns to provide adequate coverage
  • Responsible for the hiring, orientation, training, performance reviews, coaching and performance improvement plans of direct reports
  • Develop department specific goals and objectives, policies and procedures
  • Coordinate ongoing development and standardization of infusion regimens for EHR.
  • Communicate with industry rsp regarding new therapies and education of nursing staff
  • Assists with the preparation, monitoring and evaluation of the department budget.
  • Training for staff: example: BLS Certification

Required Education:

  • BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing)

Skill, Licensure and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Possession of a current state Registered Nurse license
  • Current Basic Life support certification for Health Care Providers
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation/eClinicalWorks(ECW) is a plus

Position: Infusion Nurse

Reports to: Nurse Manager

Job Purpose:

In this position, you will work collaboratively with an infusion center team to provide hands-on care to patients receiving specialty infusion and injection medications.

Essential Job Functions including, but not limited to:

  • Receive patients into the infusion center, verifying patient identity and current medical records.
  • Explain procedures and provide education on therapies.
  • Consent patients to treatment and answer any questions within your scope of practice.
  • Triage patients for infection, new symptoms, or any changes in health status prior to therapy. Report any concerns to ordering provider.
  • Monitor patients by recording vital signs and assessing for signs/symptoms of reaction.
  • Establish intravenous access when indicated and monitor site throughout treatment.
  • Prepare medications as indicated by protocols and manufacturer instructions.
  • Administer medications as indicated by protocols and manufacturer instructions.
  • Respond to any adverse events, side effects, infusion reactions, or emergency situations as needed. Follow protocols for reactions within scope of practice and report to ordering provider.
  • Create and complete infusion notes on each encounter. Ensure complete and accurate documentation in patient’s record.
  • Triage patient calls and collaborate with ordering provider when needed.
  • Participate in clinical research trials as part of the practice requirements

 

Required Education:

  • Nursing degree, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • RN licensure in Massachusetts

Skills, Licensure and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Licensed RN
  • One-year clinical experience involving infusion therapy, including patient assessment skills, and venous access skills preferred
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation, eClinicalWorks(ECW) preferred
  • Competence in establishing and maintaining intravenous access
  • Competency in working with different vascular devices, including peripheral and central line management
  • Strong patient assessment skills

Position: EEG Technologist

Reports to: Office Manager and Epileptologist

Job Purpose: 

In this role, the EEG Technologist will be responsible for performing EEG procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. Your role will involve preparing patients for EEG tests, applying electrodes, monitoring EEG recordings, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of data collected.

Essential Job Functions including, but not limited to:

  • Takes the patient’s medical history including current medications, gathers descriptions of recent episodes for seizures and any concerns regarding the patient including why they were ordered an EEG.
  • Obtains signed patient consent and insurance forms and scans into patient chart.
  • Prepare patients for EEG procedures, explaining the process of the procedure.
  • Apply electrodes to specified locations on the patient’s scalp according to the International 10-20 System for electrode placement.
  • Set up EEG equipment, ensuring proper functioning and calibration for accurate recordings.
  • Monitor EEG recordings during procedures, adjusting equipment settings as necessary to obtain clear data.
  • Assist neurologists in analyzing EEG recordings, identifying abnormalities, and documenting findings.
  • Reports any pertinent findings to the Epileptologist promptly including urgent findings.
  • Maintain accurate records of EEG procedures, including patient information, test results, and any pertinent observations and enter into patient charts in ECW.
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients during EEG procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of EEG equipment to ensure proper functioning and longevity.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations, protocols, and safety standards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including neurologists, nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Uploads all data from ambulatory studies to the main server, prunes data to a second file with samples of normal findings and abnormal findings including video samples and creates all EEG reports including basic findings and clinical events for the Epileptologist.
  • Staff education about history taking when a patient suffers a seizure, types of seizure, and seizure safety.
  • Keeps and maintains storage for EEG data and maintains space for studies and pull up and transfer any previous studies from the archived drives.
  • Obtainins prior authorization for 72- hour ambulatory video EEG studies when necessary.
  • Schedules all 72-hour EEGs with the patients.
  • Calls patients when directed by the providers regarding any patient concerns.
  • Troubleshoots all equipment in the EEG lab including scanners, printers, and computers.
  • Orders supplies including linen needed for the lab and keeps lab stocked.
  • Developing standards and process improvement strategies.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as neuroscience, physiology, or healthcare technology.
  • Certification as an EEG Technician is highly preferred.
  • CPR Certified

Skill, Licensure and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Proficiency in operating EEG equipment and software (EEG Registration/certification from ABRET preferable), with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
  • Ability to accurately apply electrodes and monitor EEG recordings to ensure high-quality data collection.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot technical problems, as well as recognize abnormalities in EEG recordings.
  • Prior experience working in a neurology or healthcare setting, particularly with EEG procedures, is advantageous but not necessarily required.

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended periods of standing and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Lifting or moving of ill or injured patients
